Recently Ministers Wynne and Williams launched the Framework in a virtual member’s meeting where a number of CHO CEOs committed their organisations to work towards having a culturally safe service and workplace. You can view the videos of the CEOs committing to the framework, an Aboriginal tenant and Aboriginal employee talking about the impact of dealing with a culturally-safe organisation, and report consultant Jenny Samms talking about the next steps on our website.
CHIA Vic has partnered with the Victorian Aboriginal Community Services Association (VACSAL) to deliver cultural awareness training in the context of the new Community Housing Aboriginal Cultural Safety Framework.
This course will give participants an increased understanding of the historical and cultural events that continue to impact on Aboriginal communities and individuals. It will examine the impact of racism and stereotyping and look at ways to break down barriers to working effectively with Aboriginal organisations and individuals.
Whilst the training does not cover the implementation of the framework, it will provide participants with a sound base to assist their organisation to begin the process of adopting the framework.
