CHIA Vic has partnered with the Victorian Aboriginal Community Services Association (VACSAL) to deliver cultural awareness training in the context of the new Community Housing Aboriginal Cultural Safety Framework.
This course will give participants an increased understanding of the historical and cultural events that continue to impact on Aboriginal communities and individuals. It will examine the impact of racism and stereotyping and look at ways to break down barriers to working effectively with Aboriginal organisations and individuals.
Whilst the training does not cover the implementation of the framework, it will provide participants with a sound base to assist their organisation to begin the process of adopting the framework.
Note: CHIA Vic can also organise tailored training for those CHOs that want to run a session in house so please contact Holly Mullaney to arrange the training.
VACSAL has a strong commitment to the Aboriginal community and to providing the finest Aboriginal Cultural Awareness training available to participants that ensures services and people working with the Aboriginal community leave their training with knowledge and skills that they can utilise within their work environments.
Josh Wanganeen is VACSAL’s Lead Aboriginal Cultural Awareness Trainer and RTO Course Facilitator. A proud Yorta Yorta, Kokitha, Kauna and Narrungga man and father, Josh has many years’ experience working with the Aboriginal community in roles such as family violence intensive case manager and manager of the Aboriginal Centre for Males. He was also a Koorie Educator at Echuca College.
