Opportunities, renewal and sustainability are the three key themes to be tackled by the combined national and Victorian 2020 Housing Aspirations Conference.
With the desperate need for social housing continuing to rise throughout the country, and the share of social housing eroding over time, the social housing sector must exploit all opportunities for growth. This conference will look at a range of successful approaches to growing the number of social housing units, including examples from Canada.
Come and hear how Canada’s social housing providers rose to the challenge of gearing for growth in the wake of that country’s impressive National Housing Strategy. Closer to home we will explore the opportunities presented by the Victorian Government’s Public Housing Renewal Program, new financing vehicles, and how the planning system can help leverage additional affordable housing.
The smoky haze blanketing much of Australia’s east coast this summer has only reinforced the need for all sectors to factor climate change into their planning and day-to-day business. We’ll be discussing how the housing sector can respond to our changing environment and looking at ways to manage emerging climate risks.
Plus, we’ll be hearing from Indigenous and disability advocates about why the housing sector must become more supportive, and proactive, in catering to the needs of tenants and becoming more aware of the optimum way of doing business.
